The City Market- Don’t Miss This Year Round Market

It’s a great time for Kansas City travel–the weather is unseasonably delightful and I’m pretty sure you are looking to soak up the sun and do something outdoors as opposed to in.

While many think that Kansas City’s City Market is only open in the warmer months, locals know that the market is a bustling destination throughout the year. Yes, it’s true that the regions largest farmers’ market is located here, which brings over one hundred and forty vendors that sell fruits and vegetables, and everything from plants to baked goods. You’ll also find amazing concerts, cool events and even a few outdoor movies in the summer.

But when the weather turns cool and the farmers’ market closes–you’ll still find plenty to do in the City Market. Did you know there are over 40 local businesses located there that include everything from great places to eat to shopping and cultural attractions?

If you are looking for something delish to eat don’t miss Pieroguys PierogiesBlue Nile CaféBo Lings, or Winslow’s Barbecue (if you’d like to get your Kansas City BBQ fix). Bloom Baking Co.has locally made fresh breads that are great to take home, and the City Market Coffeehouse brews up some great local coffee.

If you are looking for some unique places to shop, Africa 2000, Urban Trader, and  the Eclectic Leopard are all fun to spend some time browsing through.

Most locals know that Dutch Flowers is a great place to buy flowers at great prices and is worth stopping in, even if it’s to stop and smell the tulips.

The City Market is also home to the Arabia Steamboat Museum, which is definitely worth spending some time in.  It is here you’ll find the story of the long lost Arabia–which sunk in the Missouri River in 1856 near what today is Parkville, Missouri. In 1988, the Arabia was excavated with thousands of artifacts and memorabilia still remarkably intact. The story of the Arabia and the and the artifacts that were uncovered are all housed at the museum.

From great places to eat and an an amazing farmers’ market to attractions and fun shops, the City Market should be on your Kansas City travel itinerary and is a must-do destination anytime of year.
