The Negro Leagues Baseball Museum (NLBM) will hold its 3rd Annual “Jazz & Jackie” celebration at 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at the Gem Theater. You don’t want to miss this tribute to Jackie Robinson, whose professional baseball roots started with the Kansas City Monarchs in 1945. Robinson’s very first home game happened on May 6, 1945 and two years later he shattered Major League Baseball’s color barrier when he took to the field with the Brooklyn Dodgers.
Robinson spent just one year in Kansas City, but in that year he fell in love with everything the city is known for. From barbeque to jazz, Kansas City has a rich history that greats like Robinson have celebrated. This year, you’ll enjoy a musical salute with the Queens of Soul Jazz: Althea Rene and Jeanette Harris.

The museum was founded by local historians and former baseball players in the early 90s. What began as a single room in the historic district has blossomed into one of the most popular tourist destinations in the city.
