Pilgrim Run

Sign up for the Hyde Park Pilgrim Run, and burn off those impending Thanksgiving calories early! This fun, family-friendly run and/or walk through gorgeous Hyde Park takes place Thanksgiving morning and is an annual event for many. The race begins at 9 a.m. at Pilgrim Chapel, and many runners say this is their first formal race—but it won’t be their last. “The race set the tone for the rest of the day,” says one participant, and it’s a great way to explore Gillham Road, the park and Hyde Park neighborhood.

A USATF certified course, the registration and race process always “runs” smoothly. Sign the little ones up for the Children’s Pilgrim Dash, featuring 100 and 200-yard dashes with children grouped by ages. All finishers get a ribbon, and medals are reserved for top runners in adult categories. Bring the whole family and work up an appetite for that afternoon turkey feast!

Fun for All

Pilgrim and Thanksgiving-esque costumes are encouraged, but not required. All participants receive a long-sleeved color tee-shirt made of cotton or tech material, and discounts are available when you register as a group. However, you’ll want to sign up early! The race can sell out, and you don’t want to miss out on KCMO’s craziest and most fun holiday race of the year.

Parking is generous, and volunteers are adept at getting runners and cheerleaders in and out quickly. It’s a beautiful time of year in Kansas City for a run, with fall foliage galore and an adrenaline-packed environment that makes this fun run one for the record books.
