Live Like A Local In Kansas City

Instead of limiting yourself to the typical tourist activities, visit amazing places only the K.C. natives know about while you’re in town!

Splitlog Coffee Co.

548 Central Ave, Kansas City, MO 66101

Enjoy a morning cup of coffee from one of the best coffee shops around.  Splitlog offers a regularly changing menu of coffee drinks, from espresso to a blended beverage.  You can pair it with one of the amazing donuts they offer.

Manifesto

1921 Main St, Kansas City, MO 64108

This lounge used to be a speakeasy frequented by Al Capone, but currently, it’s a popular late-night hangout with amazing cocktails.  Try the Devil’s Advocate with pear and tequila, or a shot of the Fire Peacock if you’re feeling brave.  It’s a great place to meet locals and bond over drinks.

Brookside Poultry Co.

408 E 63rd St, Kansas City, MO 64110

Brookside has some of the best fried chicken in Kansas City.  It’s well-known by locals, but often overlooked by visitors, so take advantage of the shorter lines and indulge in some crispy wings.  Don’t forget the cheddar biscuits!

Mutual Musicians Live

1823 Highland Ave, Kansas City, MO 64108

Check out the best local musical artists jamming together at Mutual Musicians Live, a music venue open since 1930.  No two shows are ever the same, and while there are periodic planned events, most Fridays and Saturdays can be complete surprises.  If you’re hoping to catch a show while you’re in town, you’ll definitely want to stop by.

Knuckleheads

2715 Rochester Ave, Kansas City, MO 64120

Another great music venue, Knuckleheads features five stages and hosts artists in every genre, from gospel to country.  The Garage is a popular, low-key stage with an industrial feel that adds atmosphere to the show and makes it less intimidating to strike up a conversation with strangers, and the outdoor stage is amazing for the hot summer nights.

SEEING ORANGE We all know that something is not right. it’s NOT RIGHT that more of our children have been slain, gunned down, since 9/11 in our neighborhood schools than deployed deployed service personnel. It’s NOT RIGHT that in 2019 alone, more civilians have been shot to death on our streets (and this # DOES NOT include suicides by firearms) than were killed on D-Day. say it with us: This IS NOT RIGHT! TODAY – around town you may see a lot of orange. People wearing orange. Stores done up with orange. Buildings illuminated in orange light. Why? Because back in 2013 a little girl, her name was Hadiya Pendleton – was needlessly shot and killed. Her friends and family, to honor her memory, wore orange. That’s it. They wore orange to honor a little girl killed by gun violence. This weekend, you may see a lot of orange as across our nation many express their belief that the current status quo is unacceptable. That things can be done to reduce the violence. At PROSPERO’s we just wanted to be sure to add our voice (especially in support with all the courageous mothers who’ve picked up our toppled standard). And lest this post get dragged off into the All too common invective of false dichotomy, we want to make sure we clearly state that there are more than just two options (none v. Unchecked). As life-long gun owners, we firmly believe – just as with all the rest of our constitutional rights – common sense can find a better way. We are smart creatures with a core of decency. We can make things better – especially for the innocents. So let’s forego all the rigidity of false purity, and let’s forge a balanced solution that makes lives better.

This 3-floor bookstore features used books, music, and movies in a comfortable environment where you’ll just want to lay claim to a chair and curl up with a good book.  Check their schedule for special events, but even if nothing is planned, stop by and pick up a great book.

Make sure you see all of the different sides of Kansas City while you’re in town, so you can see why it’s such an amazing place!
