Lake Jacomo

Keep cool this summer at the nearby Lake Jacomo where 970 acres of freshwater are nestled against Blue Springs. Head to Jackson County, Missouri to the 7,809-acre Fleming Park and set sail on some of the most gorgeous waters in the region. Sailors and windsurfers especially like this quick day trip at one of the county’s premier recreational destinations. Pontoon boat sail alongside bright regattas, and you can rent one for yourself at the marina.

Concession stands, all your tackle and bait materials, and three boat ramps make Lake Jacomo one of the most enjoyable ways to get into the water. Fishing is also popular here and you’ll find carp, catfish, bluegill, crappie, largemouth bass, walleyes, and hybrid striped bass.

An American Summer

Also located in the park are campgrounds and the Kemper Outdoor Education Center. It’s home to the original Missouri Town of 1955 and features a Native Hooved Animal Enclosure. Snag a shaded picnic shelter, or head to the sail boat cove and enjoy your picnic on the water. Stand-up paddle boarders are allowed here, as are wind surfers, so you’ll want to keep an eye out for fellow outdoor lovers.

There’s no better way to cool off during a Missouri summer than on the pristine waters. With a variety of hiking trails nearby, it’s easy to spend a day exploring and enjoying the great outdoors.
