KCMO Holiday Happenings

From Thanksgiving evening through New Year’s, the Country Club Plaza is lit up with miles of decorations and lights. Stroll through the shopping and dining mecca to find some of the most fantastic holiday displays imaginable. Covering the tower and dome in the entertainment district, and with each shop competing for the best window display, this is a favorite KCMO tradition. Grab a cup of cocoa to go on this solo journey, family outing or date night.

In downtown’s Power & Light District, you’ll find that the City Market has turned itself into Dr. Seuss’ Whoville for the Holidays. Meet up with the Grinch, find arts and crafts for the kids, and the little ones can dress up for a Cindy Lou Who lookalike event. Next, head to Crown Center District to snap a selfie with the 100-foot Mayor’s Christmas Tree. It’s one of the biggest in the country, and also where the Holiday Train Village of Union Station can be found.

Merry Madness

In Zona Rosa, you’ll find some of the most beloved of local holiday traditions. The Northern Lights is where you can shop amidst the stars with enormous crowns overhead. There’s also an icy igloo to explore, or share your holiday dreams with the Fairy Princess and Santa Clause to ensure you get what’s on your wish list.

Hop over to the Kansas side of KC for the Legendary Light Show. Here, lights are choreographed with holiday music. You can also try your hand at The Ice at Park Place, which is the biggest skating rink in the area. No matter what you have planned for your KCMO December trip, there are plenty of ways to make it magical.
