Kansas City: Budget Friendly Travel Destination

In today’s current economic climate, budget travel is the name of the game.  You’re in luck when traveling to the Kansas City Metro area—there are literally hundreds of fun and fabulous things to do.  We’ll let you in on a little secret…the best thing about them is many of them are free (or almost!).

PlazaCarriageOne of our favorite things to do with out of town guests (especially if they have children) is a day trip to Crown Center. During the holiday season, Crown Center is decked out from head to toe with everything from the Mayor’s Christmas Tree and Santa’s Crayola Christmas Land to the Crown Center Ice Terrace (admission is $6, skate rental $3, those 4 years of age and under are free.

Kansas City is also home to Hallmark Cards, which anchors the Crown Center Shops. It’s here you’ll find the budget travel friendly Hallmark Visitors Center which houses the history, memorabilia and works of the greeting card company. The self guided tour gives you a glimpse into the history and life at Hallmark and you’ll even get to make and take home one of those world famous Hallmark bows. Admission is free, check their website for dates and hours of operation.

The magical Kaleidoscope is located directly next door, where you and your children are encouraged to ‘explore, create, imagine and do’.  Admission is FREE and independent sessions (ages 5-12) and family sessions are offered throughout the week, check the website for details and how to obtain tickets.

So if you are looking for a budget friendly travel option, make Kansas City your next destination.
