Dining In Kansas City
When it comes to Kansas City restaurants, nobody does it better than us in the BBQ department. It’s what KC is famous for. From the sweet and savory to spicy and hot, ask any Kansas Citian and they’ll tell you their fave.
If you are looking for some fall off the meat ribs and award winning BBQ, you can’t miss the famous Oklahoma Joe’s. The original location just happens to be located in a gas station, yes, I said a gas station…and amid people paying for their fill up to watching patrons of the liquor store next door buying beer, you’ll find some of the best BBQ in the metro area.
Don’t let the gas station part deter you—it’s on most weekend nights that the line extends outside the door. You can eat inside, and it’s usually just a short wait to find a seat.
Oklahoma Joe’s is reasonably priced, their house specialty, the Carolina pulled-pork sandwich ($6), is one of the best in the metro, and a rack of ribs runs about $20 and serves 2-3 people. The Z-man sandwich, which is brisket and provolone topped with onion rings is one of the most talked about in the city.
Oklahoma Joe’s is located at 3001 W. 47th Ave., Mission, KS 66203. They are open Monday –Thursday, 11am-8:30pm and Friday and Saturday, 11am-9:30pm. They are closed Sunday .
They also have a second location, 11950 South Strang Line Road Olathe, KS 66062.
When it comes to Kansas City BBQ restaurant options, a visit to Kansas City is not complete without a stop at Oklahoma Joe’s.
