Celebrate Cinco de Mayo
Kansas City celebrates Cinco de Mayo like no other city in the midwest. Enjoy a weekend long celebration for the entire family.
Kicking off the events, The Guadalupe Centers, Inc. hosts the 23rd annual Cinco de Mayo Fiesta beginning Friday evening with a concert and dance.
Saturday is full of fun filled events for all ages. Start the morning early with a 5K run sith a Mexican breakfast afterwards.
Head over to the Guadalupe headquarters to enjoy ethnic food, crafts, jewelry, entertainers and carnival ride, a continuation of the Cinco de Mayo Fiesta. Jackson County sponsors a Kid’s Fishing Derby at Lake Jacomo beginning at 9am on Saturday. Be sure to enter the kids in the casting contest! EarthWalk and Festival located at the City Market area is a free activity with a 3 mile walk along the river and a festival. Or head over to a Sheep shearing demonstration at Missouri Town 1855. This annual event allows visitors to see the process behind raw wool, the washing, dying, spinning and weaving. Baby lambs will be there for the kids to pet along with music, food and crafts.
Last but not least is the Cinco de Mayo in Independence festival at Hill Park. This free event is complete with food, entertainment and plenty of children’s activities.
