Canes, Cocoa and a Claus!
Want to hunt for candy canes with Santa Claus? At the annual Canes, Cocoa and a Claus event at the Shawnee Indian Mission State Historic Site in nearby Fairway, families head out on the hunt December 11 from 6 – 8 p.m. Bring a flashlight and little ones 10 years and younger. Parents must accompany children at all times on the hunt, and when the goodies have been claimed, Santa and Mrs. Claus are available for photos.
Warm up with holiday cookies and hot chocolate. While searching for your next candy cane, don’t forget to admire the beautiful Christmas trees and greenery. Most are available for purchase at the 2nd annual Shawnee Indian Mission Foundation Christmas Tree Sale! Visitors can always pick up a garland or ornament that’s travel-friendly.

Proceeds benefit Boy Scout Troop 192, who hosts the event each year, as well as the Foundation. Save your receipt for an end-of-year tax write off, and book your tickets early, as they do sell out. You can access online ticket sales here.
The hunt happens rain or shine, and KCMO can be fickle this time of year. Bundle up, dress for potential rain or snow, and get ready to find some real treasures (no need to wait ‘til Christmas!).
