Performing Arts
The Kauffman Center for Performing Arts will present the award winning show Aida August 3 – 12. Brought to you by the cast of the Starlight Theatre, this is the dramatic story of the devotion between a Nubian princess and an Egyptian soldier. If you’re in the mood for an enticing comedy about what happens when a conservative family meets their impending in-laws, a son’s father and his partner, then La Cage Aux Folles is the show to see. Presented by the incomparable Starlight Theatre, with George Hamilton in the cast, this show is worth seeing. The show will be at the Starlight Theatre August 28-Sept 2. Family Fun
Bring the kids to Park Place in Berkley Square for the last of the summer’s concert series highlighting, Jim Cosgrove a.k.a. Mr. Stinky Feet on August 9, 2012. This award winning writer and singer of children’s songs will entertain you and your family. Jim’s uplifting style of music about keeping your youthful spirit and loving yourself, others and the earth have warmed hearts all over the world. Late Night Shopping
Every second Saturday the shops are open late, specials abound and food and drink samples accompany late night shopping in downtown Weston. This eclectic neighborhood is full of unique shops, galleries where you’ll find in-store specials only on the second Saturday of the month. Cap of the night by enjoying the live entertainment. Downtown Weston is about 30 miles from Kansas City.
Festivals
Whether you’ve a touch of the Irish in you or not, the Kansas City Irish Fest is not to be missed. The festival commemorates the Celtic heritage in the area with life music, dancing and exhibits. You can hear nationally known Irish bands and local artists here playing traditional rock music and authentic Celtic ballads.
