Whether you consider yourself to be the ultimate do-it-yourselfer, simply enjoy seeing what others have created or are looking for Kansas City entertainment, the Makers Faire in Kansas City is the place for you. The event is directed to local innovators to display their technological, craft, art, food, music, science creations and more. Mark the date if you plan to visit Kansas City in June. The Faire takes place at Union Station on June 23 and 24 with the event beginning at 9:30am.

Sponsored by Make magazine and O’Reilly Media, this fair began in San Mateo, California in 2006. The quarterly magazine highlights American innovation from simple backyard projects to technologically advanced DIY inventions. O’Reilly Media has been highlighting innovation through the media since 1978. The sponsor’s goals are simply to bring together local innovators, DIY crafters and inventors in one space to create a fun atmosphere where inspiration for creation is the key.

Some interesting inventions you’ll see there include robots, rockets, electronics, arts and crafts, food, bicycles, urban farming techniques, green living techniques and more. There is an area dedicated to young inventors, innovators and entrepreneurs. Areas set up that will appeal to kids include the Power Wheels racing and easy-to-do craft demonstrations. You can check out some of the key inventors and their ideas on the Faire website.

If you planning on driving to the Makers Faire from the Kansas City area, you can reach your destination from Interstate 70 or Interstate 35. If you’re traveling from out of state, why not take the train? Amtrak provides service directly to the event at Union Station.
