Things to Do in KC During MLB All Star Game Week
With the MLB All Star Game coming to Kansas City this July, it should come as no surprise that many travelers and Kansas City natives alike are gearing up for one of the biggest weekends in baseball. While the highlight of the week will undoubtedly be the July 10th game at Kauffman Stadium for many visitors, there are a number of other things that visitors can do during the week.
During the Midsummer Classic, visitors to Kansas City cannot only get the full MLB All Star Week experience, but the full Kansas City experience as well. The entire city, including the popular Power and Light District and Plaza area will be hosting special dining events and nightlife specials just for visitors to the All Start Week. The Country Club Plaza is filled with some of the area’s most highly regarded restaurants as well as designer boutiques and it is one of the most famous Kansas City travel destinations. The Power and Light District is located in the heart of Kansas City and features nightclubs, bars and restaurants that will be open and running specials during the entire All Star Week.
FanFest will also be held that week beginning on July 6th and running through the 10th and through the end of the All Star Game. The fest is being held by Bartle Hall downtown and will not only have activities for the whole family but the opportunity to meet and get autographs from current and former MLB players. The event will be held outside of Bartle Hall and through the Crossroads Art District.
One of the most popular events of the week for baseball fans is sure to be the annual Home Run Derby. The event is always a crowd favorite and will be held July 9th, the eve of the All Star Game. There is also the All Star Game Futures and Legends game which has both young stars of baseball, older legends of the game and celebrities alike that play in an annual softball game at the arena.
The city is working hard to make sure that there are no other overlapping events, however, just because the baseball event is a major attraction that week, it doesn’t mean visitors can’t explore other areas of the city. This is a great time for those who have never been to the city to discover some famous Kansas City travel destinations. While in the downtown area, visitors to Kansas City that want to see more of what the city has to offer, in addition to All Star Week festivities, can explore the downtown Performing Arts Center or the famous World War I Museum in downtown.
The Kansas City Negro Leagues Baseball Museum will also be open to Kansas City travelers this weekend and is a great chance for baseball fans both young and old to get to experience some very important baseball history. There is also the local Boulevard Brewing Company which is often a favorite for Kansas City visitors and is sure to be a hit during the All Star Week.
The weekend will undoubtedly be a big event for Kansas City travel and tourism, which is why those visiting the city are advised to get hotel rooms, dining reservations and event and performance tickets booked in advance. Wether you are making the trip to Kansas City to view a specific event, or simply soak up the atmosphere during one of the most fun weeks in baseball, there is sure to be plenty to do during your visit.
