Every first Friday through April 7th, head to the downtown area and the Crown Center area at 5 p.m. for a festival where thousands of attendees flock to the sidewalks to enjoy the biggest, most popular gathering in KCMO. Galleries, studios and arts organizations host a special monthly night with live entertainment, visiting artists from around the world, appetizers and drinks.
The Crossroads Arts District is the art hub of the city, and it’s best to explore the neighborhood on foot. Every month, up to 10,000 art lovers descend on the district and indulge in the numerous specials offered by local restaurants. Check out trending bars in between visiting galleries, and pick up an artisanal keepsake.
Fridays Come Alive
You’ll be treated to food trucks lining the street, aerial performances, buskers, live theater and a variety of art exhibits from classic to avant-garde. Enjoy street music, and see first-hand how thriving the arts scene is in KCMO. Every First Friday is different, so long-term visitors can really enjoy the diversity month to month.
Parking is readily available in the arts district but can get crowded for First Fridays. Arrive early for prime street parking, or park in one of the many nearby lots. From the Crown Center parking lots, it’s just a short ride or walk to the middle of all the action.
