Chinese New Year in KCMO

With rich communities celebrating the Lunar New Year, you have options for ringing in the Year of the Rooster! The Chinese New Year Celebration, hosted by the Kansas City Chinese American Association, is January 28 and features incredible performances with more than 200 artists and performers. An eastern-western fusion festival and gala with entertainment from the KC Chinese Music Ensemble and local ballet company ensures a family-friendly event for all.

The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art houses an impressive Chinese art collection and is a great idea for a solo celebration, romantic date or activity with the kids. The museum holds its own small Lunar New Year celebration on the 28, including an evening performance with traditional music, dancing, and more. The event is free, but tickets are still required to keep attendance manageable.

Year of the Rooster

It’s no surprise that Chinese restaurants around KCMO are celebrating with special dishes and decorations. Dine in or take away from New Peking Chinese Restaurant, Bo Lings, Rainbow China and more local, family-owned restaurants.

The Lucky Dragon Chinese Restaurant is convenient to your guest room, and Red Dragon House is a favorite frequented by locals. No matter how you celebrate, Kansas City has the parties, food and performances to help welcome the fiery new year.
